Kat Feek, PGDip (Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies) (Dist.), QG

Qualified Professional Genealogist and Family History Researcher

based in Market Deeping, Lincolnshire, England

Hello! I’m Kat — a professional genealogist and the face behind Tracing Time.

My interest in genealogy began with my own story. I was adopted as an infant, and researching my family history gave me the opportunity to explore and build trees for both my adoptive and biological families. That personal journey gave me a deep appreciation for identity, belonging, and the many ways in which families are formed. I also have a particular interest in Genetic Genealogy — using DNA testing and match analysis to answer questions that traditional records alone can't always solve.

What began as a personal project eventually became a professional opportunity. Today, I work with both individual and commercial clients on a wide range of research — from tracing family lines and breaking down brick walls, to identifying unknown ancestors through DNA, and supporting larger heritage and community projects.

In 2024, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma (with Distinction) in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde, which — along with my 20 years of research experience — equips me with the advanced skills, critical thinking, and specialist knowledge needed to conduct thorough, evidence-based genealogical research to a professional standard.

In addition to client work, I’m involved in several document preservation and archiving projects, and I run a One-Place Study focused on the village of Frognall in Lincolnshire, exploring the lives, occupations, and stories of the community through time.

In 2025, I was honoured to be appointed to the Board of Directors of the Register of Qualified Genealogists (RQG), where I continue to support others in the field and help uphold professional standards, education, and the future of genealogical research.

For me, genealogy is detective work at its best. I love the challenge of piecing together clues, uncovering hidden connections, and solving historical puzzles — especially when it results in meaningful discoveries for my clients.
